Horse Drunk on Homebrew Cider

The fermentation had caused the pony to become drunk and get himself disorientated while stumbling around in the grounds of owner Sarah Penhaligon in Newquay, Cornwall and fell into her tarpaulin-covered swimming pool.

Penhaligon said: "I looked outside, saw this massive animal in the dark, and thought the Beast of Bodmin was in the pool. I was terrified, but when I took a closer look I realised it was a horse.

"I didn't have a clue what to do next - who do you call when there's a horse stuck in your swimming pool?

"I dialed 999 and they asked which service I wanted and I said I didn't know, I just had a horse in my pool and needed help."

After a two hour operation the fire service were able to pull out the pony named Fat Boy by placing hay steps inside the pool and helping him up the makeshift stairs with the help of a support harness.

Horse Arrested For Being Drunk

In the same week a horse was arrested in Romania for drink ‘driving’ when the cart it was pulling went out of control and struck a man sitting on a bench.

Police officers after ‘arresting’ the horse tested it for alcohol which turned out to be positive.

Witnesses told police in Lelesti in Gorj that the horse seemed ‘out of control’ while the owner had been trying desperately to bring it under control.

The horse’s owner Ion Dragon, 56 had just purchased the horse and was on his way home from the fair where he had brought it.

Police are now under the impression that the drunken animal had been given alcohol on purpose by the seller to give the horse a stronger and healthier appearance.

Sadly the 86 year old who had been struck by the horse’s cart died from him injuries but the police have not charged the horse.

The horse was placed outside the police station and allowed to go home once he had sobered up.

No doubt this pair of two four legged animals had a heck of a hangover the next day!
